Based on the teachings of beloved guru swami sivananda and on the principles of the 5 points of yoga, the sivananda training system aims to teach an authentically vedic system of yoga and believes that retaining the vitality of the body is a byproduct of the discipline and not the goal. The system philosophies are summarized in 5 principles.
Proper exercise: Asanas | Proper breathing: Pranayama | Proper relaxation: Savasana | Proper diet: Vegetarian such foods are Sattvic. | Positive thinking and meditation: Vedanta and Dhyana
A session of training typically starts with every practitioner resting in savasana, and begins with the pranayama (breathing exercises) kapalabhati and anuloma viloma, preceding rounds of sūrya namaskār, before the standard program of the 12 basic asanas. A session averages 60 minutes, and the traditional program has a basic sequence, allowing for some variation in the later part of the sequence.
Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, s a form of Hatha yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas. Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in performing asanas (postures). The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old. Iyengar Yoga is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha yoga in which there is a focus on the structural alignment of the physical body through the development of asanas. Through the practice of a system of asanas, it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being. The discipline is considered by its practitioners to be a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life, in turn helping to promote total physical and spiritual well-being.
Excellent ambience, very capable, knowledgeable and professional teachers. I would recommend this as the best yoga studio in Chennai.
I have been taking classes for over a year now and it has helped me not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually! kudos to the teachers and team for making it an enjoyable experience.
